TRIO WITH DIRK ENGELMEYER AND MATTHIAS KLÜTER

Today the Frank Muschalle Trio belongs to the leading interpreters among the "second generation" of European boogie woogie musicians.
With the line - up of piano, doublebass, drums&vocals, the trio has been touring in Europe for years and the members of the trio played with musicians like Red Holloway, Axel Zwingenberger, Vince Weber, Carey Bell, Hubert Sumlin, Rusty Zinn, Herb Hardesty and Carey Smith to name a few.

Dirk Engelmeyer, born near Osnabrück, Germany, in 1969, discovered a liking for the drums in early youth. Since then he has been exploring the numerous facets of this instrument intensively. Initially impressed by the blues and rock music of the sixities, Dirk´s playing today is influenced by drummers of the New Orleans, Chicago, jazz and swing eras such as Nick Fatool, Dave Tough, J.C. Heard or Sid Catlett.
For years Dirk has accompanied various bands and soloists. Recently he has been especially popular with Boogie Woogie pianists. In this particular context his soft, swinging drumming style can develop marvellously.
Besides the collaboration with Frank Muschalle, with whom he has performed for many years throughout Europe, Dirk has been on stage with Axel Zwingenberger, Martin Pyrker, Vince Weber, Matthias Seuffert und Herbert Christ.Dirk Engelmeyer inspires his audience again and again with his charming and unaffected vocal manner. A wide variety of styles can be found in his repertory: blues- and barrelhouse titels from the thirties and forties as well as vivacious boogie woogie classics and light, statley pieces in the Kansas City swing tradition.
Beside his own titles Dirk Engelmeyer performs songs by such diverse artists as Jay McShann, Bumble Bee Slim or Little Brother Montgomery.
By means of careful choice of those pieces that are tailored to his talent, and through his preoccupation with traditional styles, Dirk knows how to make titles always sound fresh and vivid.

Matthias Klüter (doublebass), born in Bünde, Germany, in 1969, found his love to music 25 years ago, learned to play guitar and trumpet and finaly discovered the doublebass as his passion. He worked as a recording technician and producer for several years and intensivates his deeply roots in blues and jazz by playing in different music projects. At that time he developed his groovy playingstyle in tradition of doublebass greats like Walter Page or Jimmy Blanton. As a result, Matthias played as an opener for musicians like Clifton Chenier, Jr. or A.C.Reed and worked with Rusty Zinn, Axel Zwingenberger, Vince Weber, Matthias Seuffert, Engelbert Wrobel and others. Since 8 years now he is part of the rhythm section in the Frank Muschalle Trio.
